Linkin Park Lead Singer, Chester Bennington Kills Self

We’re devastated to relay that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has reportedly committed suicide by hanging.

According to TMZ, Bennington was found in his private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. county today (July 20) just before 9AM PT. According to reports, the singer was at home alone at the time of his death. His family was reportedly back in Arizona and he was reportedly discovered by a housekeeper.

TMZ also reports that one of the Bennington’s Linkin Park bandmates arrived at the estate shortly after police arrived with plans to drive the singer to a photo shoot. The unnamed bandmate was shocked by the events that had transpired. The group were expected to return to the road for a tour next week. Bennington was the father of six children from two different wives.

Bennington was one of the 21st century’s leading frontmen as Linkin Park found massive success early on with the arrival of their debut album, Hybrid Theory, in 2000. The record has gone on to become one of the highest selling rock albums in U.S. history, receiving a diamond certification from the RIAA in 2005 for sales in excess of 10 million copies.

In total, Bennington recorded seven albums with Linkin Park, the most recent being One More Light, which was released earlier this year. The band has sold over 70 million albums across the world as the frontman leaves behind a storied legacy.

The Recording Academy issued a statement delivered by President/CEO Neil Portnow that reads as follows:
